Preparing for the Orionids at Offield Family Viewlands

October 17, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Each year from early October to early November, the meteor shower of the giant Orion lights up the sky, producing about 10-20 meteors an hour during peak activity, which occurs overnight October 20-21.

Tonight’s program is about the stories, literature, art and science inspired by Orion, and by the parent comet of the meteor shower, 1P/Halley, in anticipation of the Orionid Meteor Shower peak, which will happen a few nights after our program.

Program begins at 7 pm, though it is recommended that guests of the Viewlands for tonight’s program arrive early to catch sunset, which is at 6:52 pm. The Moon will be the barest waxing crescent tonight, and may be too close to the horizon for viewing, but this also means the sky will be dark for good views of the stars.

Program available for in person and via Zoom. Go to landtrust.org to register!
