Winter’s Cross Quarter and the Season of Candlemas
February 6, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Halfway through each season we come to its “cross quarter,” a dynamic moment when we turn away from the promise of new beginnings towards fulfillment. In winter, the cross quarter happens at the beginning of February as Orion marches through the sky with his dogs.
Variously known as Ground Hog’s Day, Candlemas, St. Brigid’s Day, the Winter cross quarter festivals are a celebration of sustaining the inner light, though the days are growing longer through the remaining weeks of the season.
Star Lore historian Mary Stewart Adams will share insights online with Little Traverse Conservancy into the celestial picture behind this month’s festival season, and how it can inform the mood of the year. As always, program will include information about finding your way through the sky in this season!
